Mission Statement

Children First ABA Clinic, LLC is a clinic based company providing applied behavior analysis and social skills instruction services to children with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities. We also provide training to parents that will empower them to continue treatment in their homes. Treatment is based on periodical assessments across multiple domains and decisions are data driven with the goal of increasing the quality of life, level of independence and safety of our clients and their families. Parents, caregivers and other family members are an integral part of the planning, decision making and treatment team. Treatment decisions are made in a way that is respectful to the family culture, priorities and concerns as they are developmentally appropriate.

Meet the Team

Meghan Hodgins, MS Ed., BCBA, LBA: Meghan is a cofounder of Children First ABA Clinic, LLC. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a Master’s Degree in special education both from Old Dominion University. In addition, Meghan has 18 years’ experience teaching elementary school children with autism and other developmental disabilities. She was awarded the Virginia Lottery Super Teacher Award for 2010 and received the 2014 Academic Award for Special Education Applied Behavior Analysis from George Mason University. She is also the parent to two children who have been diagnosed with Autism. Meghan has been practicing as a BCBA since 2014. She will focus on providing supervision to behavior technicians and BCaBAs, assessments, report writing, providing treatment to clients, social skills instruction and parent training. Meghan also is an avid stamper, scrapbooker, and hiker in her free time.

Jessica: Jessica is a BCBA who received her Bachelors of Science in Allied Health Science from the University of Connecticut and her Master of Arts in Applied Behavior Analysis at Ball State University. She has 2 years of experience working in an early childhood education classroom within the school system, and 7 years of experience in Applied Behavior Analysis. She became very passionate about the Autism world, during her senior year of college where she learned briefly about the diagnosis in one of her classes. From then on, she has expanded her knowledge about the Applied Behavior Analysis field, and aims to make a difference in many different children and their family’s lives! In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, hiking, traveling, and being outdoors.

Shelby : Shelby is our office manager. She has an Associates Degree in Business Administration. Her job includes bookkeeping, contacting clients, providing tours for prospective clients, cleaning and etc. She also has a child on the spectrum and can relate to the parents on a personal level. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and most of all spending time with her family.

Jessica: Jessica graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She has been an RBT since 2014 and has previous experience working with clients in a clinic as well as in the home. In her spare time, she enjoys playing with her dog, being outside in nature, traveling, and getting together with close friends and family.

Peggy: Peggy is a Special Education Teacher for students 18-22 years old with Norfolk Public Schools. She received a Bachelor's of Science from Norfolk State University and a Special Education License from Old Dominion University. She is an RBT and sees clients of all ages. She enjoys being outdoors for lots of different activities, as long as she has bug spray.

Ariel: Ariel graduated from ODU in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science Speech Language Pathology/Audiology and a minor in Special Education. She was a special education teacher for 3 years but really wanted to try ABA. She loves working with children and adults with autism. They teach her something new every day. In her leisure time she enjoys spending time with her husband, her 2 boys and her dogs. She also enjoys the outdoors and riding her bike.

Jenn: Jenn started as an RBT at Children First ABA Clinic part time in August 2016. She loved working with children in this way so much that she decided to pursue this line of work full time. She came on full time in January 2017. Jenn has also worked as a 1:1 assistant for a young man with autism in the public school setting and as a paraprofessional in classes for children with varying special needs. She assisted with setting up a successful program in the public school setting connecting children with social challenges with peer mentors. Jenn enjoys creating and spending time with her family when she is not helping her clients find new successes. She also loves donuts!!

Tara: Tara is a Registered Behavior Technician with experience in both in home and clinical therapy since 2014. She received her BS degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Psychology. Aside from working in the human services industry, traveling and exploring are her passions.

Tysha: Tysha, a Virginia Beach native and graduate of Tallwood High School obtained her bachelor's degree from Longwood University. It is there that she fell in love with the special needs population when volunteering for Special Olympics and spending her summers working at a summer camp for children with special needs. After graduation she worked for Virginia Beach Public Schools as part of the SECEP program as a job coach. At this time she also went back to school and earned her master's degree in sports management. She eventually discovered the field of ABA and began working at a clinic under the supervision of Meghan Hodgins. She went on to join Meghan in her endeavors at Children First ABA Clinic as her first employee. Tysha continued to volunteer for Special Olympics in hopes of one day earning her dream job. In the fall of 2017, Tysha's hard work paid off when she was offered the job of Special Olympics Regional Director for the Peninsula. As a regional director, Tysha works with schools to create inclusive sports opportunities for children with special needs. Tysha continues to work at the clinic part time in an effort to continue to help this amazing population she loves to serve.

Sara: Sara is our newly licensed Therapy Dog. She is a certified Canine Good Citizen and is licensed through Therapy Dog International. She enjoys getting treats from the clients and comforting their anxious parents. She loves hiking in the woods and curling up next to the fireplace at home.
